Forge partnerships and alliances, and create successful initiatives that will fulfill the Foundation’s vision and become the world’s largest provider of instruments and resources that are necessary to help every child reach their true potential for success in music and in life.

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play a musical instrument and enjoy a quality music education regardless of economic status, race or cultural barriers.

We recognize and believe in the overwhelming scientific and anecdotal evidence that music participation vastly improves the lives of all children who participate in music and significantly increases their chances for success in all other endeavors in life.

We believe that individuals, corporations, non-governmental organizations and government agencies who have the resources to fulfill the Vision and Mission of the Foundation have an obligation to participate in activities and programs that deliver musical instruments and provide a quality music education to any child who wishes to have it.

Our Goal

At Masimo, we know firsthand how sound inspires and uplifts — providing a magnificent way to enjoy one of the purest forms of self-expression: Music.

The Sound Start Foundation is another way of emboldening the mindset to Bring Joy to the World Through Sound.

To advance our undertaking so the next generation has a path to explore the wonders of making music, we donated 10,000 instruments to children across the world through 2021.

Our Plan

Our plan in school year 2022-23 is to substantially surpass last year’s goal and to help communities meet the challenges of these difficult times for school music programs. We have partnered with the Save The Music Foundation in the United States to ensure that each donation is matched with appropriate music education programs. In addition to the Foundation’s own programs, we are rapidly expanding our reach with additional partnerships to ensure that our mission is realized globally.

Our Funding

A major source of fundraising for these instruments begins with us. Masimo, owner of the Sound Start Foundation, has been a generous supporter. However, donations from individuals, corporate donors, nonprofit foundations and other groups who share our vision will be necessary to provide every underserved community and child in need with these instruments to experience  the wonders and benefits of musicmaking.

Our Potential

Scores of studies indicate that playing musical instrument at a young age positively impacts academic performance and teaches valuable life skills. Unfortunately, music programs are often the first to be cut in school districts experiencing budget shortfalls.

The Sound Start Foundation helps to ensure that all school districts will still have access to musical instruments and programs so that all children can realize their full potential, regardless of economic status or other obstacles.
